Hello Friends and prospective Vizsla owners!
I often get puppy inquiries and I normally would direct them to breeders (either I’ve known from events or members of regional vizsla clubs) who have litters or planning a litter.
From time to time I would get a few questions from prospective vizsla owners like: what to look for in a breeder?; what questions do I ask a breeder?; what information should I ask from the breeder?; can I even ask any of those questions? (lol), etc.
I’ve recreated the following every time I get these questions so I’ve decided to make a check list (sort of) for prospective puppy buyers when starting their search. And whether they have identified a breeder to work with (be it a reputable breeder or unknown breeder) I’ve shared this check list in some versions. And hopefully this will redirect puppy buyers to reputable breeders.
Mind you, what I’m stating below are not “be all and end all” in the puppy search process. I’ve owned this breed for a number of years and learned (and still learning) a few things. I’m also fortunate to have work with some of the most knowledgeable folks in our breed and outside our breed. And to be surrounded with amazing friends, breeders, exhibitors, handlers and judges from whom I continue to gain knowledge.
But before going into the check list I tell prospective buyers a couple of things which is my ``preamble” in puppy buying.
Once a breeder is identified here goes the list:
Again the above is not a catch all check list and depending on some of the information from the breeder generated by this check list additional questions may need to be asked.
Hoping some prospective Vizsla owners may find this check list helpful. And Vizsla friends, please feel free to chime in or add anything!
